101 Great Goals is our website of the day!

OK - so the beautiful game is not just about attack flair. From the agility of the cat-like goalkeeper, to the tough tackling defenders who pump the ball happily into orbit every time an attack threatens - and what about those hard-working engines of industry who run the pitch from the middle of the park, dictating the play? Yes, football is a many-faceted game, but what grabs the headlines and makes supporters literally wet with excitement on a daily basis?

That’s right…. Goals baby yeah! So, in such respect euro2008statistics.com think that it’s time to pay tribute to one of our favourite footballing sites on the net - namely 101greatgoals.com! Packed with goal descriptions, videos - and a blog that makes us weak at the knees, we’ve been chatting to head honch Arthur, who’s kindly agreed to answer a few questions for us, to give the 101greatgoals.com perspective on what’s going on.

He’s certainly knowlegable, and we’ve been feeding him with daily shots of statistical info from the CPI, so in all honesty - his word is pretty much footballing gospel.

1> Who on earth is going to win Euro 2008?
To avoid looking like a muppet in just a few weeks time, better to just hope that one of the teams who have lit up the tournament so far wins it. The romantic in me says the Dutch, and the Spanish are great to watch. It will probably be a more pragmatic team though perhaps the Germans or Portuguese. Its a very open tournament - although at the group stages it usually is.

2> Which is your favourite goal of all time? And your 101st favourite of course?
Favourite goal of all time is the famous Ronnie Radford strike (not overly different from Ibrahimovic’s goal v Greece), which is featured on the 101 Great Goals video that our site is named after. You don’t see pitches like that anymore… As for the 101st - how about the Stefan Gislason goal scored recently.

3>Euro2008statistics are interested in scoping out the laziest player. Who do you think has Malouded (perhaps) most in the tournament thus far?
It has to be Florent Malouda doesn’t it. Amazing that Nasri doesn’t start ahead of him and this tournament seems to be confirming that Raymond Domenech is out of his depth. Malouda is a real mystery, despite his high work rate (I think your statistics prove this) he just doesn’t do anything with the ball. And to think that David Ginola only got 17 caps for France and never played in an international tournament.

4> Tom thinks Ronaldo is the best player in the tournament, whilst Jack prefers Fernando Torres – who’s right?
So far David Villa has been the best, his finishing has been superb. But it would not surprise me if Ronaldo dominates the latter stages of the tournament. Buffon has also been immense.

5> Why should people make sure that 101greatgoals.com is top of their blogroll at all times!
To catch the latest goals and a round up of the daily comment and analysis from the English papers.
